At Al-Rushd Independent School, our Islamic ethos is based upon the beliefs of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamā‘ah (Sunni Islam), following the orthodox creed upheld by mainstream Sunni scholarship. Our Islamic Studies curriculum follows the Safar Academy syllabus, with the teaching of Fiqh based primarily on the Hanafi school of jurisprudence to provide consistency and structure. We recognise and respect the four established Sunni madhhabs—Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi‘i, and Hanbali—and teach our students that each represents a valid and authentic interpretation of the Qur’an and Sunnah. We also warmly welcome students from different Sunni backgrounds, including those who do not formally follow a madhhab (such as many from a Salafi background), and encourage mutual respect and good manners when discussing legitimate scholarly differences. Our aim is to nurture unity, sound Islamic understanding, and respect for the rich scholarly tradition of Islam. We encourage different beliefs and faiths to promote tolerance and genuineness as students interact with each other. It enables students to become multi-culturally diverse and respect other people’s cultures and beliefs.
